Beaten and thrown into the river
The main respondent is a 30-year-old man from Morocco. According to the respondent, on October 30th 2023 in the early afternoon, together with other 5 people he attempted to cross the border from Bosnia into Croatia.
As the respondent reports, in their attempt they were stopped by 3 men wearing uniforms at the border before being forced to return to Bosnia. According to him, when they were stopped they were then beaten with police batons all over. He states that the police officers also used their fists to beat the members of the transit group. The respondent’s back tooth was beaten so hard by punches he received from one police officer that it was later removed from his mouth. The respondent recalls the police officers having leashed dogs to intimidate the individuals. The dogs did not bite them, but were used to force and threaten obedience from the individuals. The respondent reports that after this beating, the police officers used their guns to force the members of the transit group to move into the river. According to him, once they got into the river bank the police officers both pushed and hit individuals with batons forcing them to cross the river. Alongside the wounds he received from baton beating and punches, the respondent got a large gaping wound from being forced into the river.
