They were hitting everyone and laughing while doing this
On the night of 20th of October 2025, a 25-years-old man from Sudan, traveled together with four other young men from Sudan in their early 20s from Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) to the Croatian border by taxi and continued by foot. Soon after they crossed the border in the woods, they encountered two Croatian police officers in standard blue uniforms. Our interviewee noticed a sensor – a black box with a red light – beeping in the woods. He believed that this was the reason for them being caught.

The officers pulled out their guns and pointed them at the group, screaming “stop, stop” and “get down.” One of them was an older, heavy weight man with glasses. The group stopped. The two officers called backup, and two more police vehicles arrived. The officers searched them and took away all their belongings, including their phones and all their money. The older officers with glasses, together with another officer, brought the group back to the border in a police van with the “Police” markings. The trip took 5 minutes. At the border, they got out and the officers beat them with police batons. They were hitting everyone all over their bodies, including the back of their heads, and laughing while doing this. The heavy weight officer with glasses laughed and said that “nobody can come here.” Then they smashed the people’s phones and returned them to the group in an unusable state. They told them “go, go, Bosnia.”

The group was forced to go back across the border. It was nighttime and the group walked to a nearby mosque and slept there. In the morning, they reached a small settlement about 15 km from Bihać and took a bus to Bihać.
