From Ceuta (Spain) to Morocco,

The respondent is a Moroccan man, 30 years old, from a small city close to Rabat. He tried to enter Ceuta together with 2 other friends. The respondent said: “I came to tell my story when I tried to enter Ceuta and they took me back to Morocco. My friends and I had an idea to go to Europe, but Europe is far away. We went to Ceuta, the closest place to Europe. There, the idea came because we have many job certificates, such as painting, barbering, and cooking, but there is no job opportunity in Morocco, or good money or a decent life. If there was work in Morocco, we would work here, but there is no work. We are just wasting time here, so we wanted to go for a better life, but this is difficult. I wanted to make an opportunity to immigrate to an European country with papers, but it is impossible from Morocco, there is no opportunity. So I decided that we would go illegally, and this is a dangerous thing. We have to face very dangerous things: when we are at sea or we are in the middle of the jungle and there is no one trustworthy. I already tried to go from the Balkans: I was in Bosnia, Bosnia returned me from Bosnia to Bulgaria and from Bulgaria to Turkey and from Turkey 30 days of imprisonment and when it ended they returned me to Morocco. All my friends who were with me in Türkiye were beaten except me because I was speaking English and they said to me ‘translate for us what these young men are saying’ and I was not beaten. So, we thought that we would go to the city of Fnideq, me and my friends, in a taxi. We saw a house for rent and we sat for a week to wait for bad weather so that the police would not be many of them. We went to the forest when the very bad weather was approaching. We went to the forest in the bad weather, and from the forest we went to the wall.
Location where the respondent was apprehended by the police
When we arrived at the wall, The police was patrolling the wall and they caught us. It was the Moroccan police. They put us in a van and drove us to jail.

They put us in jail with a group from Sudan. They waited until we were enouh to fill up a big bus. They didn’t beat us, but they didn’t give us anything to eat or drink for two days. This was very difficult for us because we were hungry and did not sleep until morning. We entered a dark room and were not given any food or drink for two days. The bed had no covers or mattresses. We slept on the floor like dogs. This is disgusting. It was two days and then they took us by bus to a city in Morocco far away from Ceuta, called Meknes, and they left us there without food, money, clothes. This was our story to Ceuta and despite everything we will reach our dream.”
