The respondent is a 30-year-old man from Sudan. He was pushed back along with five other men also from Sudan. The group was aged between 27 and 35 years old. The group was pushed back from Romania to Serbia on the 21st of June 2022 at around 5 pm.
According to the respondent, the group was intercepted by the police at the border after entering Romania. They were stopped by two men whom they identified as officers as they were wearing black uniforms with emblems on them. The group was not sure but assumes that it was. One of them was reportedly wearing a balaclava. They were driving a white car that the respondent recalled had something written on the side. The respondent reported that at first, the officers took phones, power banks, and money from the transit group. They only returned their phones and kept the power banks, and all their money, which added up to an amount of around 300 euros. According to the respondent, the officers asked them for their documents, and where they were from and took pictures of all of them. The group said that they came to ask for asylum and expressed so, but the officers denied it. ‘They tell us no, go back’. The respondent said that they were forced to go back over the border to Serbia. Therefore, the group returned to the place where they started their transit attempt.
